LIST OF MATERIALS AND MODULE TIMES
NOV 9 : 12:00pm - 2:00pm Saif Terai — Some ink, paper and nibs will be provided. It is suggested that students bring some of their nibs, paper and ink to share and try at the workshop.
NOV 9 : 2:30pm - 5:30pm.Ruth Tait —‘Drawing Nature’. Using materials gathered from the environment, e.g. grasses, twigs, leaves, feathers, dried plants or flowers—and applying drawing principles to develop design and decorative record for use in a calligraphic piece. Bring some inexpensive drawing paper or sketchbook and a sheet or 2 of mix-media paper. Pencils HB and 2B. Ink and pen nibs for calligraphic phrase, if time permits. Exemplars and drawing guide notes provided.
NOV 10 : 9:30am - 11:30 am. Susan Pinard —‘Weathergrams’. For the weathergrams to be hung outside, waterproof ink is needed. Any waterproof ink should work if one uses a dip nib, such as Brause, Speedball, Tape or Mitchell. The suggested ink is acrylic vermilion (red) for the initial letter and Higgins waterproof India ink for the words. Use a brown paper strip, like the paper we used to get at the grocery store, or any brown kraft paper. The dimensions are 2 1/2 x 10 inches, before the top is folded over. Use 10 or fewer words. I'm going to write: Seeing flowers brings me joy. One's own words are best. You could make the weathergram a bit wider, if desired. I will supply the hole punch. If you want to add some outline drawings, use a waterproof marker.
Nov 10 : 12:30pm - 2:30pm Greg Hutton — ‘Copperplate’. The only supplies I would suggest for the Copperplate portion of the Pot-Pourri would be for participants to bring their favourite pointed pen nibs or brush markers, also about 5 sheets of marker paper or Rhodia paper (dot or blank). Not essential, since I will be bringing in some supplies and tools of my own to demonstrate various materials.
Nov 10 : 3:00pm - 5:00pm Doris Wionzek — ‘Nature Prints’. Nature Prints - What to Bring - collect lots of stuff to print (leaves, feathers, ferns, etc.) Place your items in a magazine or old phone book to keep them flat, and to remove some moisture. - bring lots of paper – smooth or lightly textured, different colours, paste paper, etc. For the adventurous – try some lightweight canvas or other fabric. - a bunch of old newspaper. - some calligraphy tools – a pen handle, nibs and writing fluids. - some favourite quotations to combine with your prints Optional stuff (bring only if you already have it – don’t buy anything) - a few colours of acrylic paints - tweezers - a rubber brayer
