Paul Antonio -- Scribe -- A 'Meet-Greet-And-Learn' Calligraphy Society of Ottawa Special Guest Event

Lecture And Discussion With This Acclaimed European Calligrapher.

Paul Antonio, born in Trinidad, moved to London, U.K., currently living in Portugal. He has studied Calligraphy and Letterform History at University of Reading, U.K., Reigate School of Arts & Crafts U.K. He has also worked as the Assistant Archaeological Illustrator, for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in Egypt copying hieroglyphs. He has studied Arabic Calligraphy, English Palaeography and Archaeological Illustration at Birkbeck University (2001). He is the author of ‘Copperplate Script - A Yin&Yang Approach’ which is an innovative simplification to the learning of Copperplate Script.

Simplified Copperplate

Since writing his detailed manual on Copperplate Script, (pascribe-workbooks.myshopify.com) Paul Antonio (https://pascribe.com/ & https://www.instagram.com/pascribe/ ) has made some startling discoveries which underpin the learning, writing and continued application of the script.

In this Lecture, he will demonstrate how to approach learning the script with a monoline tool coupled with his ‘Copperplate Script Training Wheels’ (CPTW) and how the CPTW helps with inter and intra letter spacing to then assist with graduating to the nib & ink and its application to both formal copperplate and brush copperplate script learning. He will also touch on his geometric flourishing technique which helps practitioners build a framework for correcting their flourishes and balancing them with the letters they are writing.
