Description:

This two day Introduction to Copperplate workshop is designed especially for beginners, and no prior calligraphy experience is required. The workshop will begin with an overview of tools and materials as well as the history and essential principles of Copperplate. On the first day, students will learn the principle strokes, lowercase letterforms and word construction. The second day will focus on capital letters as we continue to form words and work on rhythm and spacing.

Materials List:
  • A penholder (oblique for right handers, straight for left handers)
  • pointed nibs (Nikko G or Leonardt Principal)
  • a jar of ink (Higgins Eternal or Moon Palace sumi)
  • pad of smooth paper (blank Rhodia or Canson Pro Marker Layout)
  • Dr. Ph Martin’s Bleedproof White ink
  • small container for water
  • pencil
  • pencil sharpener
  • kneadable eraser
  • ruler
  • coffee cup, apron, etc.
