In this fun class you will learn about pen manipulation and stroke work with a Folk Art, Borders and Floral theme in mind. The tool of choice... the Pilot Parallel Pen. The unique nib, created by Pilot, was designed specifically for calligraphy and lettering practice. The design allows the user to create thin lines or very thick strokes with just a flick of the wrist, and is the perfect tool not just for calligraphy but design work as well. Supplies: • Pilot Parallel pen—whatever you have in hand—sizes 6.0mm to 3.8mm will be demonstrated • Fountain pen inks (Pelikan, J Herbin, Robert Oster, etc. ) and or Ecoline liquid watercolour and or walnut ink • layout paper that takes your favourite ink without bleeding • 1/4” graph/grid paper • Ruler and pencil Optional: • watercolour, white gouache, palette, brush for loading, water container, paper towels • Card stock and or watercolour paper and or Strathmore Watercolour cards • compass

An abecedarium of calligraphy words wend their way from Eh to Zed ! The words of the month are your launch pad.
Beginners (or if you just don’t have time): write one or more words of the month.
Beyond beginners: Write the words in a sentence or poem, using a calligraphic hand that evokes the words or a style that suits the month’s program. You could also start a small journal in which to write your gallery work each month.
