Beginner: This event is desgined those having little-to-no instruction nor experience in lettering. Instruction is likely to begin with the basic language, tools, and materials.

Description:

Join CSO Instructor Susan Pinard for this beginner course, exploring Foundational and Uncial scripts. Students will create a piece with their own alphabet sentence. We will also try out versals and knotwork.

Materials List:
  • paper (bond paper will do to start with)
  • pencil & eraser
  • ruler
  • a broad-edged fountain pen (if you are new to calligraphy); Michaels & DeSerres have a variety of fountain pens
  • a broad-edged nib in holder, such as Speedball C-1, C-2 or C-3 and ink or gouache if you have them, with a brush and water
  • paper towels (baby wipes are useful too)

Note: I will have some tools for people to try out the first night: fountain pens, markers, and steel dip pens.
